Update: Council approved the rates below at their meeting on December 7, 2023
At their meeting on December 7, 2022, Council will consider a recommendation from staff on water, wastewater and stormwater rates for 2023.
The proposed changes would see:
- no change to the water rate for 2023 (the rate has remain unchanged since 2021)
- the rate for wastewater increase by 4% for both fixed and volumetric fees
- the rate for stormwater increase by 3%
The reason for this increase is to generate additional revenues to ensure funding is in place for infrastructure renewal as set out in the Middlesex Centre Asset Management Plan. This funding is in addition to revenues from new growth (development).
Rate Impact
If approved, the average rate impact across water, wastewater and stormwater fees will be a little more than 2% for most users when weighted across the three services. The impact to each property will vary slightly depending on water consumption. The greatest percentage increase will be to those who only pay stormwater fees however this will also be the smallest cost increase.
The table below provides a summary of the impact of the rate increases at various usage levels (for three services, unless otherwise stated).
Annual Water Usage (m3) | Cost in 2022 | Cost in 2023 | $ Increase (Annual) | % Increase |
---|---|---|---|---|
96 | $1,263.00 | $1,291.44 | $28.44 | 2.25% |
180 | $1,828.32 | $1,868.76 | $40.44 | 2.22% |
