Play it safe near area waterways
Conservation authorities in our area are calling for caution around waterways over the next few days.
With the arrival of warmer temperatures to melt the snow pack and rain in the forecast, water levels are high in local rivers, creeks and other waterbodies. Localized ponding and flooding is possible in low-lying areas including natural floodplain areas, parks and farm fields.
The public is encouraged to exercise extreme caution around all local waterways. Banks adjacent to rivers and creeks may be slippery and when combined with cold, fast-moving water, pose a serious hazard. Any ice cover will be weakened and unstable. Parents are encouraged to keep their children and pets away from all watercourses.

Additionally - Residents are reminded to check that their downspouts are clear from debris and take other actions to protect their home water from near their foundation.
