Middlesex Centre Fire Services (MCFS) is gearing up for Fire Prevention Week!

Earlier today, Middlesex Centre Fire Chief Colin Toth was at the Coldstream Fire Hall to receive a Fire Prevention Week public education kit featuring handy and fun items to remind people about the importance of fire safety. Items include silicone oven mitts, key chains, activity handouts, and all sorts of toys and games for children. MCFS will distribute these items during school visits, fire truck tours, and community events throughout the year.

The kit was prepared by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety CouncilMedallion Group Insurance by McFarlan Rowlands donated ten kits across Ontario with an additional donation of $2,500 provided by the Gore Mutual Foundation through their Brokers for Good Program. MCFS was fortunate to be selected to receive one of the kits.

"We really appreciate this generous donation," said Fire Chief Colin Toth. "These items will go a long way in helping Middlesex Centre Fire Services share lifesaving fire safety messages with people of all ages."

Fire Prevention Week runs October 6 to 12, and this year focuses on "Smoke alarms: Make them work for you!"

"A working smoke alarm is your best chance to keep you and your family safe in the event of a fire,” added Chief Toth. "Protecting your family starts with testing your smoke alarms once a month, changing the batteries as per the manufacturer’s instructions, and replacing smoke alarms that are older than 10 years.”
