Komoka Park’s basketball court is getting a major refresh in 2025 thanks to a generous donation of $15,000 from Middlesex Paving & Maintenance and LiUNA Local 1059.
The donation is part of LiUNA Local 1059's Charity Partnership Program, which provides employers like Middlesex Paving & Maintenance a contribution to the cause of their choice in exchange for including the union logo on their vehicles.
It continues a long line of donations from Middlesex Paving & Maintenance for improvements to the trails and amenities at Komoka Park. Earlier this year, they contributed all of the asphalt to the new playground at the park.
“Hats off to Middlesex Paving & Maintenance and LiUNA Local 1059 for this donation to our community and our Komoka Park,” said Councillor Sue Cates. “Their generosity is a great example of local supporting local.”
Renewing park amenities like sports courts and playgrounds is an ongoing initiative for Middlesex Centre’s Community Services department. Donations from businesses and community groups help to offset the costs of these projects and allow for additional improvements that are outside of the scope of the municipal budget.
“The contributions from local businesses and organizations remind me why I love being part of this community,” added Councillor Cates. “Together we are building parks that all our families and youth can enjoy for years to come.”
More details about the upgrades to the basketball court will be shared in the spring.
