Council Meeting Highlights - July 3, 2024

The Mayor opened the meeting by commending staff members Justin Fidler and Kelly Chandler of the Middlesex Centre’s Community Services department for their fast action in administering first aid to a member of the community who experienced a life-threatening health issue while at the Komoka Wellness Centre. 

Executive Director Todd Copeland provided an update on the activities of Community Futures Middlesex and highlighted support services available to area small businesses. From 2021 – 2023, 697 businesses have received financial support through the program in Middlesex County, including businesses located in Middlesex Centre. 

During the meeting, Council:

  • Sitting as the Court of Revision, approved the Schedule of Assessment for the Saker Drain.
  • Authorized Ilderton Drain No 1 Branch project to proceed pending Court of Revision approval.
  • Approved proceeding with the Ballymote East Municipal Minor Drain Improvement request submitted by landowners.
  • Directed staff to proceed with the disposition of a small land-locked parcel of municipally owned property deemed surplus to the needs of the municipality.
  • Received a staff report regarding Bill 185 Changes to the Planning Act, Development Charges Act, and the Municipal Act. 
  • Authorized staff to submit a delegation request to the City of London to consider certain amendments to the existing Arva Sewage Treatment Agreement, established in 2000, to permit additional growth in the municipality, specifically Arva.
  • Received an update on the municipality’s participation in the Ontario Fire College Training Partnership and Pilot Program for a newly designed Learning Management System. 
  • Approved the YMCA Komoka Youth Centre license agreement to operate a Youth Centre located at the Komoka Community Centre.
  • Received the minutes of the Community Services Advisory Committee held on March 18, 2024.
  • Received the 2023 Treasurer’s Investment Report.

Sitting in public meeting, Council heard an application for an official plan and zoning by-law amendment.

Next Council Meeting

The next meeting of Middlesex Centre Council is set for Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. (Special Meeting of Council). Please note that council meetings will be held at the Ilderton Community Centre for the duration of the municipal office renovation.
