Councillor Debbie Heffernan has resigned from Middlesex Centre council as of August 30, 2024, vacating the seat for Ward 1.

A life-long resident of the community, Debbie has served as the councillor for Ilderton and area since 2018. As councillor, she represented the municipality on the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and the Blue Water Recycling Association. Debbie also sat on the Middlesex Centre Cemetery and Economic Development Advisory committees.

“Debbie has always been involved in her community and has a history of ‘putting her hand up’ whether to serve as a councillor or to volunteer for the Ilderton Agricultural Society and other local causes,” said Mayor Aina DeViet.

“On behalf of the Municipality of Middlesex Centre Council and staff, I’d like to extend heartfelt thanks to Debbie for her service to the municipality over the past six years. We all appreciated Debbie's contributions and insights, and wish her the very best in the years ahead."

Council will receive a formal report on the Ward 1 Council Vacancy at their meeting on September 4, 2024. The municipal clerk bring forward a report on options for filling the vacancy to the September 18 council meeting. Council may decide to hold a by-election or appoint a councillor for the remainder of the 2022-2026 council term.
