During the meeting, Council:

  • Received an update on the services of the Middlesex Centre Fire Services (MCFS) in 2024. MCFS responded to 434 emergencies last year, with 105 of those being motor vehicle collisions. Additionally, MCFS conducted 481 fire inspections across the three municipalities it serves (Middlesex Centre, Thames Centre, and North Middlesex) and investigated 11 fires in those same municipalities. 
  • Received an overview of the municipality’s engagement on social media and its website in 2024. The municipality continued to grow its engagement on various social media channels and saw continued strong use of the municipal website as a central hub for information.
  • Received the budget to actual report for December 2024.
  • Directed staff to notify affected landowners and agencies about drain improvement work on Bear Creek Drain Branch 5, and requested that a drainage report be prepared in accordance with the Ontario Drainage Act.
  • Awarded the contracts for construction of the Melrose Drinking Water Interconnect Project ($3.29 million) and the associated construction administration and inspection services ($429,115) to Birnam Excavating and Stantec Consulting respectively. This project will convert the current Melrose water treatment plant into a pump station and connect the community to the Lake Huron Water Supply. Project cost will be fully funded from the Water Reserve Fund.

Planning Matters

  • Sitting in public meeting, Council heard four applications for zoning by-law amendments, including request to allow for higher density development on a lot on Caverhill Cres. in Komoka, which was referred back to staff for further discussions.

The next meeting of Middlesex Centre Council is set for Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at 9:30 a.m. Please note that council meetings will be held at the Ilderton Community Centre for the duration of the municipal office renovation.
