The April 9th meeting included an update from Cara Finn, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for the County of Middlesex. Ms. Finn highlighted the many programs and initiatives offered by Middlesex County through Invest in Middlesex and Visit Middlesex, including community improvement plan partnerships, marketing initiatives, business retention and expansion activities, guides and directories, and more. Ms. Finn also discussed the Middlesex County Connect bus system, which offers stops in Middlesex Centre.

During the meeting, Council also:

  • Heard an overview of the Pattyn Drain Engineer’s report from Brendan Shapton of GEI Consultants. The Court of Revision will meet on May 7 to consider this drainage matter.
  • Provisionally supported the costing of the municipality’s portion necessary to proceed with the studies related to the Coldstream Dam project.
  • Directed staff to impose a fee on the benefiting landowners for the Elmhurst and Parkland Place project. This is related to stub connections servicing individual properties. Staff will report back on the final costs once they are determined (the contract for the work is currently out for tender).
  • Endorsed Middlesex Centre’s continuation of the Vision Zero campaign for 2025, which aims to further enhance road safety for all road users in Middlesex Centre.
  • Received an update for the Mobile Crisis Response Team Enhancement Grant. Middlesex Centre worked with local Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) to successfully secure the grant for 2024-2025 in the amount of $120,000. The municipality sought the grant for the OPP as it is a member of the Middlesex County OPP Detachment Board. This grant supports the OPP's ongoing need for additional assistance on calls involving individuals experiencing a mental health or addiction crisis, as well as to better leverage local mental health expertise for officers.
  • Approved accounts receivable write-off totaling $36,278 for fire services.
