Middlesex Centre, Ontario, February 7, 2024 - Middlesex Centre is pleased to announce it is receiving $4,246,800 in multi-year funding from the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) Housing Accelerator Fund. This funding is a part of the Government of Canada’s National Housing Strategy, which looks to increase new housing supply.

“Through this funding, we are laying the groundwork to build new homes that integrate into the character of our community,” said Mayor Aina DeViet. “From young people just starting out to retirees, we want to ensure that we have housing options for everyone who wishes to call Middlesex Centre home.”

In the first year of funding, Middlesex Centre will focus on:

  • designing and implementing guidelines for accessory residential units (ARUs);
  • developing an affordable housing community improvement plan;
  • exploring incentive programs to encourage diverse housing types; and
  • additional initiatives to support municipal growth and housing needs.

“We warmly welcome this investment in Middlesex Centre, as it enables us to take essential steps towards addressing the need for new housing,” added Mayor DeViet.

“Our government is committed to removing barriers and cutting red tape to enable housing development, and these partnerships with Ontario communities will do just that,” commented the Honourable Nathaniel Erskine-Smith, Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities, in a media release.
