Vision Zero Road Safety Signs come to Middlesex Centre

Middlesex Centre, Ontario, October 23, 2020 – Road safety, especially as it relates to speeding, is a concern of residents across Middlesex Centre. 

The municipality’s Vision Zero program looks to address these concerns through a number of initiatives, including a new “Respect the Limit” lawn sign campaign modelled on a successful program offered by the City of London.

The signs are available free of charge to Middlesex Centre residents and businesses, and may be picked up at the municipal office and the Komoka Wellness Centre. Directions and hours of operation are available from the municipal website or by calling customer service at 519-666-0190.

Vision Zero is a global movement dedicated to eliminating traffic deaths and injuries and increasing safe, healthy equitable mobility for all. The lawn signs are one element of the municipality’s Vision Zero program.

Additional elements include mobile speed radar signs that residents may request for their neighbourhood and new community safety zones. Community safety zones will see speed limits reduced to 40 km/h in areas of special safety concern such as near schools, playgrounds and senior citizen residences, among others. Traffic violations in these zones come with double the fines of other roadways. If the weather cooperates, the municipality expects to have the community safety zone signs installed before the end of the year.
