Update - June 13, 2022: We are pleased to say the project is now completed. The new playground is installed and the landscaping is complete, making the area ready for fun!
About the Project
As part of the Municipality of Middlesex Centre's capital project improvements, the playground at Kilworth Optimist Park is being rebuilt.
Weather permitting, construction is anticipated to begin on Monday November 1, 2021 with an estimated project completion date of May 20, 2022 (subject to material availability).
This project will be done in two phases and will have the following work completed:
Phase 1 – November 2021
Remove the existing play structure and base and prepare subgrade for the installation of:
- a concrete playground curb including accessible curb cuts
- perforated drainage pipe
- a 1.8 metre wide asphalt pathway
- bench
- waste receptacle
- armour stone block seating
- trees
- final grading

Phase 2 – Spring 2022
Phase 2 will see the supply and install of the new play structure followed by the installation of the playground base (engineered wood fibre).
The municipality has contracted Henderson Recreation Equipment Ltd. for the new play structure. See the attached document below for images and a site plan.
Schedule
This project will begin on Monday, November 1, 2021. Phase 1 of the project is anticipated to last 3 weeks. Installation of the new play structure will take place in spring of 2022. Note this schedule may be affected by weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
