Mayor DeViet began the meeting by thanking local businesses and associations for their generous donations and funding for projects within Middlesex Centre, including:

  • Major upgrades to Komoka Park’s basketball court in 2025 thanks to a  donation of $15,000 from Middlesex Paving & Maintenance and LiUNA Local 1059.
  • Fire Prevention Week public education kits prepared by the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council donated by Medallion Group Insurance by McFarlan Rowlands and Gore Mutual Foundation through their Brokers for Good Program.
  • Free public skating weekly throughout the fall and winter, sponsored by a number of local businesses and organizations.
  • Mayor DeViet also acknowledged that Middlesex Centre is receiving a $493,000 investment from the Province’s Housing-Enabling Water Systems Fund. This funding is providing 73% of the costs for Middlesex Centre to twin the Glendon Drive Watermain, increasing supply capacity and creating a back-up feed to Kilworth.

During the meeting, Council:

  • Officially appointed Jean Coles as the new councillor for Ward 1, which includes the communities of Ilderton, Denfield and Birr. Ms. Coles will be sworn in at the November 20 council meeting.
  • Endorsed staff to proceed with a $2.6 million application to the Province of Ontario’s Community Sport & Recreation Infrastructure Fund (CSRIF) to support the renovation of the Ilderton Arena.
  • Received the September 2024 Budget to Actual report.
  • Received a summary of the 2025 OPP Annual Billing Statement. OPP costs will increase by 22.4% over 2024 and will total $2,828,336 in 2025. This represents more than a 2% tax levy increase for the 2025 municipal budget.
  • Approved an amendment to the Municipal Office Renovation budget of $156,583 to allow for the renovation of the existing Coldstream Community Centre washrooms, as well as a new wall partition in the community hall/meeting room.
  • Provided direction with respect to the St. Clair Region Conservation Authority proceeding with an Environmental Assessment for the Coldstream Dam.
  • Supported an application to the Ontario Health Provincial Palliative Care Program, Ontario Health Region, initiated by Jessica’s House Hospice, with respect to the addition of three additional hospice beds.
